How to Choose the Perfect Diamond: A Complete Guide
December 10, 2024 · TK Jewelry Team
Understanding the 4 Cs — cut, color, clarity, and carat — is essential when selecting your ideal diamond.
Cut
The cut of a diamond determines how well it reflects light. Grades range from Excellent to Poor. An Excellent or Ideal cut maximizes brilliance and fire.
Color
Diamond color is graded on a scale from D (colorless) to Z (light yellow). DF stones are the most sought-after for their icy appearance, while G–J offer excellent value.
Clarity
Clarity measures internal inclusions and surface blemishes. FL (Flawless) and IF (Internally Flawless) are the rarest. VS1–VS2 stones appear clean to the naked eye and offer great value.
Carat
Carat refers to the weight of a diamond. One carat equals 0.2 grams. Remember: a higher carat weight with poor cut can look smaller than a well-cut lower-carat stone.
